Receptor Found in cell membranes.
Protein molecules such as glycoproteins.
Receptors bind (attach) to specialised molecules.
Cell surface receptors (membrane receptors, transmembrane receptors) take part in communication between the cell and the outside world.
Extracellular signalling molecules (usually hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokines, growth factors or cell recognition molecules) attach to the receptor. This triggers changes in the function of the cell. The process is called signal transduction: The binding starts a chemical change on the inside of the membrane.
In short, receptors work like locks and keys.
Classification of Receptors by Stimulus
Sensory receptors are primarily classified as
detect the presence of chemicals.
detect changes in temperature.
detect mechanical forces.
detect light during vision

Heat therapy has been a natural remedy used in both to relieve pain and enhance the recovery process. By increasing the temperature of the skin surface and underlying tissues, heat stimulates the thermo receptors-sensory receptors that respond to heat and cold-which then help block transmissions of pain signals to the brain. This translates into a significant decrease of discomfort.

Heat therapy increases blood flow, which helps to decrease stiffness, relaxes sore muscles, and provides soothing comfort.

Heat should not be used on areas of swelling and bruising. (If swelling occurs, use cool pad, then apply heat after the swelling goes away).
Imagine all of the uses of a heating pad that doesn't have to be plugged in, preheated or microwaved. A heat pack that heats to a safe preset temperature and is completely reusable.

Sense of touch
Our sense of touch is controlled by a huge network of nerve endings and touch receptors in the skin known as the somatosensory system.
In this video I focus on three types of receptors,
Pain Receptors
These three receptors found through out your skin and your body allow you to feel the world around you.

Have you ever wondered why you sweat when you get too hot from running or shiver on a cold winter's day in this video we are going to explain why your body behaves like this.

Humans are endotherms and this means we are warm blooded we keep our body operating at thirty seven degrees Celsius regardless of the external conditions however this is a real challenge as our environment changes all the time depending on the weather, our clothes, if we are inside by the fire or outside having a snowball fight. So how does this work?

It's quite similar to the heating system in a house. in a house is a thermostat that measures the temperature if the house gets cold the thermostat will tell the radiators to turn on and heat it up if it's too hot they will be told to switch off simple.

Your body works in just the same way here in your brain as a special area called the hypothalamus and it measures the temperature of the blood flowing through it and also it collects information from temperatures senses around the body. it then decides if the temperature is too hot or too cold and we'll try and bring it back to thirty seven degrees Celsius. If you are too hot the hypothalamus can then send signals out to the body by the nervous system that can cause...

That hot drink that you are drinking on a cold day in hopes of warming you up, does something unique to your body.

There are thermoreceptors in your throat that cause you to increase your sweating.

Something you wouldn’t expect on a cold day, that’s right drinking a hot drink can cause you to sweat and when that sweat evaporates, you actually cool off, not warm up.

As long as that sweat can evaporate, it cools off the body faster than a cold drink.

Dr. Karen Hlinka, an anatomy and physiology professor says, drinking a warm drink over a cold drink can actually cool you off faster, under certain conditions.

If you were working out in an air conditioned health facility and you were wearing clothing that wicked the sweat away and let it evaporate very quickly, then a warm drink might be beneficial than a cold one.

Back at the coffee shop, Peyton is almost done with her hot drink, one she typically doesn’t want while at the gym.

"Typically when I work out myself, I want something cold, that’s usually what my body carves, and so I want to go for a cold bottle of water."

But not next time, she’s considering a warm dark over her cold one.

Thermoception or thermoreception is the sense by which an organism perceives temperatures. The details of how temperature receptors work are still being investigated. Ciliopathy is associated with decreased ability to sense heat, thus cilia may aid in the process. Transient receptor potential channels (TRP channels) are believed to play a role in many species in sensation of hot, cold, and pain. Mammals have at least two types of sensor: those that detect heat (i.e., temperatures above body temperature) and those that detect cold (i.e. temperatures below body temperature).

A particularly specialized form of thermoception is used by Crotalinae (pit viper) and Boidae (boa) snakes, which can effectively see the infrared radiation emitted by hot objects. The snakes' face has a pair of holes, or pits, lined with temperature sensors. The sensors...
