Chinese Food Sichuan - Chinese Street Food - Street Food China
Chinese food gets more interesting the deeper you go. I set off for Chinese street food and cuisine in deep southern Sichuan province by bicycle. I rode my bike down deep into Southern China's lush and mountainous liangshan region, in search of delicious Chinese street food and Chinese food. The Chinese food really was different in this region. The liangshan region is home to Chinese Yi ethnic minority, who have their own cuisine. It was very rural and in some areas also very poor, so I had difficulty finding the yi cuisine at first. Later in the second half of the video, I found a Yi restaurant and had a Chinese food feast! The little village I visited was called Butuo, about 120 km from Xichang.

My name is Trevor James and I'm a hungry traveler and Mandarin learner that's currently living in Chengdu, Szechuan, China, eating up as much delicious .

I enjoy tasting and documenting as many dishes as I...

The mid-autumn festival is originally a harvest festival, although in today’s modern China it is celebrated by most, regardless of if they have anything to harvest or not. It is one of the biggest celebrations, just after spring-festival, and is a time when family come together. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar with full moon at night, this year this was October 4th in the Gregorian calander.

One part of the festival celebration is moon worship – which is often simple offerings to the moon, bowing down to the moon and sometimes giving prayers to the moon. The moon is often seen as a womanly figure, and...

A glimpse into daily life in China, when me and my Chinese family-in-law are harvesting canola (rapeseed) flowers in rural Qinghai. You can also find me on Facebook:

In this video you get to follow me, Yong Hong, our nephew and my parents-in-law while we are collecting the canola flowers in our village in Qinghai. The harvest from this field was really bad – the summer was too hot and too dry. Although we didn’t get any seeds out of this field, we are using the dried canola (or rapeseed) flowers for heating in the winter. We have two kangs – beds built out of bricks – and during winter they are heated up through fires underneath. That’s where the Canola comes in handy.

My name is Miriam Follin, and I am a Swedish woman in an international relationship with my Chinese husband, and living in rural Qinghai. Both me and my husband Yong Hong are striving to live a simple but meaningful life. We like good vegetarian food, and are both very happy that we are almost self sufficient in that sense (thanks to his parents). During late spring until early autumn we have no need to buy food. Because of the climate, we do buy vegetables during winter, but the canola oil and our flour all comes from our own fields.

Rural Area (Geographical Feature), China (Country), Anhui (Chinese Province), Huangshan City (Chinese Prefecture-level City), Tunxi District (Chinese County)

Chengkan Village in Huizhou District of Huangshan City is renowned for its well-preserved and amazingly designed residential architecture of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). The village is located about 40km (24.85mi) away from Mt. Huangshan and about half an hour drive from Tunxi.

Chengkan Village is a wonder among the ancient villages in China for its elaborate layout. The whole village is arranged according to the theory of "the Eight Diagrams" in the I Ching (also Yi Jing in Chinese), or Classic of Changes, one of the oldest of the Chinese classic texts.

When stepping into the village, you are as if stepping into a maze: three main streets and ninety-nine lanes criss-crossing the village with hills and rivers surrounding it. Of course it's not the Labyrinth of Minos in Greek Mythology, but in Chengkan, a exploration of the intricacy of lanes as well as the primitive life of the locals is surely worthwhile. The special layout of the residences together with the mother river of the village, Longxi River, are believed to bring liveliness and fortune to the whole village and the welfare will be passed down from generation to generation.

Poverty, Sichuan, China

The pictures show the life of local peasants in a village in SiChuan province, China.

Despite China's strong and sustained economic growth, poverty is still widespread, especially in remote rural areas. Income inequalities between eastern and western China have risen, and the income gap between rural and urban residents has widened considerably since the late 1970s. Urban incomes are now more than three times higher than rural incomes. The government is taking serious measures to correct this trend by increasing investments in rural areas, especially in infrastructure, irrigation, education and health. These investments aim to create a balanced well-off society through economic and social development.

Rice is the quintessential staple dish in most Asian countries and China is no exception. Rice fields are found across the country, from the plain waterways of Zhejiang province to the mountainous regions in Guangxi, boasting some of the most picturesque terraced paddy fields in the world.

Guangxi is where Longji (Dragon's Backbone) rice terraces are located. The area has been a crucial part of the agricultural sector in the region, and is now also becoming a popular tourist attraction. With an altitude ranging from 300 to 1100 meters, the rice terraces dominate the surrounding hills. Several small villages (such as Dazhai) are linked via small pathways, although development is underway for several narrow roads.

A little further in the video you will find shots of the so called 'Fujian tulou'. These are traditional Chinese rural dwellings, built by the Hakka people between the 12th and 20th centuries. The structure itself is a large enclosed and fortified earthen building, mostly round or rectangular in shape. Tulou vary in size, the largest have over 100 separate rooms. Many of the buildings were also constructed as an effective stronghold for defense against armed bandits that roamed the region in previous centuries.

I visited a rural flea market in Shandong, China. At this market, Chinese people are selling all kinds of things ranging from fresh produce to a clean shave.

This flea market is a sensory overload of bizarre sights, pungent smells, and loud chatter among shoppers and vendors. Perhaps the only thing more impressive than the liveliness of this marketplace is the breadth of foods, knick-knacks and services available.

Adjacent to the stall where you can get a fresh shave and a haircut, you can buy a chicken. Next to that stall, you can buy tobacco straight from the farmer. There should be more places like this in America, because then places like Walmart wouldn't be taking all of our money. Our dough should go directly to the farmer, to the average joe who runs his own business.

Thanks for joining me today as we took a tour through my local Chinese flea market. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to like, comment and subscribe.

While most of the world is focused on China’s drive to become a tech giant and global superpower, far too little attention has been paid to rural China. By contrast, for the past three decades Stanford University’s Scott Rozelle has kept his focus on this “other China,” which still accounts for 10% of the world’s population. Professor Rozelle will present findings from his forthcoming book on China’s countryside,The Other China: Rural China's Human Capital Crisis and Future Growth and Stability (forthcoming Spring 2018), which paints a far more gloomier picture than most now associate with China. He will also offer productive ways these problems could be addressed and why doing so is important not only for China but global society as well. Following his presentation, Georgetown University Professor Kristin Looney will offer an initial commentary, drawing in part from her own research on rural Chinese politics and society.

I was super lucky to be able to spend Chinese New Year in Southern China, a 2 hour drive from Guangzhou, in a little village full of locals, eating an amazing feast of Chinese Food! The flavours were elegant and simple yet bold at the same time. Very refined!

I was invited to this village by a friend who was traveling back to her hometown for the Chinese New Year family reunion. When I arrived to the village, I was blown away at how traditional everything was and how the locals were so happy and kind hearted. I got to meet and chat with everyone in her family, and was shown around their home and told to make myself at home. This was a nice experience after spending time in Guangzhou eating Chinese Street Food.

I watched them cooking as they showed me how to make sweet and sour spare ribss and how to make chinese foods from southern china (Cantonese style cooking). They had an indoor kitchen and also were cooking outdoor using a massive wok! Watching them cooking and learning how to cook the way they do was an amazing experience.

The family took me in as their own, and even gave...

En este vídeo podéis ver a nuestro vecino de Dangyang (China central) en plena faena y tres especialidades culinarias en las que estas raíces se convierten en el protagonista principal.
