Detailed overview of public/private key encryption and live demo of exactly how digital signatures work on Mac, combining public and private keys and hash functions.

Welcome to episode 3 of my series on Blockchain/Bitcoin. I'm joined once again by my girlfriend Nadisha who is my classroom pupil...

I build on the hash function concepts from the previous episode and explain the basic concepts public and private keys and how to use them to create digital signatures - a key part of the bitcoin infrastructure.

We demonstrate in a Mac terminal how you can generate your own keys and encrypt and decrypt and sign your own resources - learning by doing always works.

We touch on bitcoin addresses, what they represent and how they are created.

Finally I go back for a refresh of the bitcoin blockchain browser and look at the first ever bitcoin transaction in the "Genesis Block" to show what a real bitcoin address looks like.

This is part two in my basic visual introduction to the concepts behind a blockchain. We build on the concepts from the previous video and introduce public / private key pairs and signing using an interactive web demo.

If you missed it, part 1 is here:

If you are interested in playing with this on your own, it is available online at:

The code that runs this demo is also on GitHub:

If you want to know more about how public key cryptography works, see the Wikipedia page on it:

The details of how public keys relate to private keys are hard to summarize, but it has to do with Euler's theorem. Basically, using Euler's theorem there is some math you can do to a number given some parameters (which I'll call the public key) which allows someone with some other parameters (which I'll call the private key) to decipher the original number without having to do brute force factorization because there is a shortcut way to find the phi of a prime number. Rather than me butchering the explanation, check this video series out for a more...

This is part 23 of the Blockchain tutorial explaining what a ledger is.

This tutorial explains the differences between:
- a centralised and a distributed ledger
- a public ledger (permissionless ledger) and a private ledger (permissioned ledger)

In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain.

Bitcoin released as open source software in 2009 is a cryptocurrency invented by Satoshi Nakamoto (unidentified person or group of persons).
After the introduction of Bitcoin many Bitcoin alternatives were created. These alternate cryptocurrencies are called Altcoins (Litecoin, Dodgecoin etc).
Bitcoin's underlying technology is called Blockchain.
The Blockchain is a distributed decentralized incorruptible database (ledger) that records blocks of digital information. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block.

Soon people realises that there many other use cases where the Blockchain technology can be applied and not just as a cryptocurrency application.
New Blockchain platforms were created based on the Blockchain technology, one of which is called Ethereum.
Ethereum focuses on running programming code, called smart contracts, on any...

About the Book:
The technology likely to have the greatest impact on the future of the world economy has arrived, and it's not self-driving cars, solar energy, or artificial intelligence. It’s called the blockchain.

The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the Internet of information. The second generation powered by blockchain technology is bringing us the Internet of value: a new, distributed platform that can help us reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better.

Blockchain is the ingeniously simple, revolutionary protocol that allows transactions to be simultaneously anonymous and secure by maintaining a tamperproof public ledger of value. Though it's the technology that drives bitcoin and other digital currencies,...

In this video, I review Zilliqa's upcoming initial coin offering.

In my point of view Zilliqa is a strong buy, its the 6th best ICO of month.

Zilliqa is the world's first high-throughput public blockchain platform - designed to scale to thousands of transactions per second.

Zilliqa brings the theory of sharding to practice with its novel protocol that increases transaction rates as its network expands. The platform is tailored towards enabling secure data-driven decentralised apps, designed to meet the scaling requirements of machine learning and financial algorithms.

Zilliqa has been under research and development for two years, and powered several ground-breaking deployments commercially.

Scaling public blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum is a long standing technical challenge. In this episode, we cover Zilliqa which has pioneered a design to scale public blockchain throughput with the number of nodes by sharding the blockchain. Sharding has been hitherto proposed as a scaling technique by Ethereum. Zilliqa is one of the first projects to propose a concrete design with an operational testnet processing a couple thousand transactions per second across several shards.

Our guests, Xinshu Dong (CEO) and Amrit Kumar (Crypto Lead), walk us through the objectives, protocol design and fundraising structure of this innovative project. We also briefly cover Zilliqa's novel approach to designing a smart contract language and execution environment.

Topics discussed in this episode:
- Sharding as a scaling technique
- Different kinds of sharding, including state sharding and non-state sharding
- How Zilliqa works under the hood - consensus algorithms & transaction processing
- Zilliqa's novel approach for a smart contract...

Before we delve into the inner workings of a bitcoin transaction I wanted to explain how the actual bitcoin address is derived from the public key which in turn is derived from the private key.

I take through step by step all the steps required to derived the checksums etc and show with a real example of a real bitcoin transaction.

Also discuss why checksums are included in Bitcoin addresses in order to eliminate the possibility of characters being corrupted, or modified in transit.

This is the cool tool for converted from base 58 encoded value to hex value.

What is Hashing & Digital Signature in The Blockchain?, hashing, blockchain, bitcoin, ethereum, cryptography, crypto, cryptocurrency, the blockchain, how does blockchain work

What is Hashing & Digital Signature in The Blockchain?

Today, we're going to be talking about the word blockchain and breaking it down to understand what does it mean when someone says, "Blockchain."

What is hashing? Hashing refers to the concept of taking an arbitrary amount of input data, applying some algorithm to it, and generating a fixed-size output data called the hash. The input can be any number of bits that could represent a single character, an MP3 file, an entire novel, a spreadsheet of your banking history, or even the entire Internet. The point is that the input can be infinitely big. The hashing algorithm [00:01:00] can be chosen depending on your needs and there are many publicly available hashing algorithms. The point is that the algorithm takes the infinite input of bits, applies some calculations to them, and outputs a finite number of bits. For example, 256 bits.

What can this hash be used for? A common usage for hashes today is to fingerprint files, also known as check zones. This means that a hash is used to verify that a file has not been [00:01:30] tampered with or modified in any way not intended by the author. If WikiLeaks, for example, publishes a set of files along with their MD5 hashes,...

Cryptocurrencies have captured the imagination of technologists, financiers, and economists. Perhaps even more intriguing are the long-term, diverse applications of the blockchain. By increasing transparency of cryptocurrency systems, the contained data becomes more accessible and useful. The Bitcoin blockchain data are now available for exploration with BigQuery. All historical data are in the big query-public-data:bitcoin_blockchain dataset, which updates every 10 minutes. We hope that by making the data more transparent, users of the data can gain a deeper understanding of how cryptocurrency systems function and how they might best be used for the benefit of society.

What is Blockchain? How does blockchain work, explained for dummies. What is Blockchain Technology and how does it affect our economy?

All a blockchain does is act as a public ledger that lists everything that goes on in the network in real-time. It's the tool that makes the whole thing possible.

The blockchain, and thus the ethereum network, is distributed across thousands of computers (or "nodes") around the world. It's also "Turing complete," which means that smart contracts on the blockchain can handle most computational functions, allowing them to be pretty sophisticated.
