What is a peer to peer system?
The distinction between clients and servers is useful and common in many internet interactions. But the client-server model creates problems, particularly given the importance of the servers themselves. If the servers go down, clients cannot obtain service. As a result, other systems are built using what is called a peer to peermodel. In a peer-to-peer (P2P) system, all participants act as both clients and servers, increasing the resiliency of the system.

With Peer to Peer lending, there are some risks they are not telling you. First, there is the liquidity issue where your money is essentially trapped in a loan for 3-5 years. The current aggregated default rate is variable and is dependent on the well being of the economy which could fluctuate. The returns are not guaranteed and the default rate could spike resulting in a loss rather than the paltry 6-9 percent of advertised gains. Second, the borrower is not ultimately responsible to pay you back but rather pay the intermediate company. This create some pretty peculiar situations if the company becomes insolvent. .

Peer-to-peer lending (sometimes referred to as P2P lending or crowdlending) is basically an alternative to "traditional" banking or in other words, a way for you to borrow from or lend to peers directly.
There is of course a peer-to-peer lending platform that always takes its cut but still, you're practically eliminating an important middle man (the bank) from the equation with peer-to-peer loans.
Will peer-to-peer lending replace banking? Unlikely, at least for the time being.
Are however P2P loans an interesting alternative? Most definitely and all in all, it's clear to absolutely everyone that crowdlending is here to stay.

Distributed protocols for peer to peer file sharing, streaming video, and video on demand have revolutionised the way the majority of information is conveyed over the Internet. The peers are millions of computers, acting as both clients and servers, downloading and uploading information. Information to be shared is broken into chunks, and the chunks are traded among peers in the network. There can be turnover in the set of chunks of information being collected and/or in the set of peers collecting the information. Coding, in which groups of chunks are combined to form new chunks, can enhance the collection process. The systems are distributed and scalable. The theory for understanding peer to peer systems has lagged far behind our ability to mathematically model, predict, and optimize system performance. In this talk I shall discuss stochastic models, mathematical results, and challenges relating to the performance of peer to peer communication in large networks.

Over the last nine years, the P2P Foundation has produced a sizeable body of material, both original and curated, but none of it is specifically designed as an introduction for newcomers and people who are not so familiar with the P2P approach. Hence Irma Wilson's proposal, during a trip which FutureSharp helped organized in South Africa in the two first weeks of June 2015, to produce a number of short videos. With Irma's assistance, and the help of filmmaker Michel Taljaard, we produced the following videos:
This first video answers the question, what is peer to peer?
The second outlines the basic political ideas of the P2P Foundation
The third looks at P2P economics and
The last highlights the legal and policy suggestions with some emphasis on the copy fair license

While WebRTC is largely a peer-to-peer technology, it does still require servers to help signal the initial connection, navigate NATs, and to support advanced calling scenarios. Chad will review the basics of what is needed for a WebRTC signaling server, how WebRTC’s Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) process works with STUN and TURN servers, review media server options for WebRTC and introduce WebRTC gateways.
Key Topics: Signaling considerations, ICE, STUN, TURN details, media servers, gateways

I have six years of peer to peer lending and investing experience, on the LendingClub platform. I have invested in over 1,000 loans, in $25 increments. As a dividend growth investor and proponent of income investments (I optimize for passive income and yield), this video compares LendingClub (and peer to peer lending overall) to dividend stocks. In particular, I discuss the pros, cons, and returns that are possible with P2P lending.
* I go into depth on my personal results with peer to peer lending and LendingClub. Learn about my personal net annual return (after defaults) since I started back in 2011.
* Learn about the tax implications of peer to peer lending (taxed as ordinary income) versus qualified dividends (taxed as long term capital gains).
* See how I leverage my peer to peer loan portfolio as a makeshift emergency fund.
* Learn why I am personally at a crossroads, and am considering taking all money out of peer to peer lending and into dividend stocks. I'm at a point where it probably makes sense to just focus on one strategy, especially with my unexciting results from P2P lending.
* Learn how I used to work for the CEO of LendingClub, in a prior job, and why I think the company and platform is great.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) payments have been around since the 1800s thanks to Western Union. From there, the market has grown rapidly, especially after the appearance of PayPal in 1999. Now, there are even more ways to give money to friends and family and get funds from them.
This includes digital wallets, Square cash, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, and social media platform payments. With the number of ways now available to do peer-to-peer payments, it's no wonder the global market is valued at $1 trillion. In just the U.S. alone, this payment method is expected to top $86 billion by 2018.
Although peer-to-peer payments are popular, there are still risks and precautions you need to take if you choose to add this payment method. Check out our ultimate guide to peer-to-peer payments to discover how you can leverage the benefits while minimizing any risk.

Danke! :)

As we highlighted in a recent podcast, the peer-to-peer economy is transforming us from a society of middlemen (factories, distributors, corporations) into a society of independent producers capable of interacting directly with customers and like-minded communities. But now the P2P economy is being acknowledged by the mainstream as they attempt to play catch up on an idea that is threatening to topple the old system of control.
