Here's a cool GoPro time lapse of our boat traveling through all 6 lock chambers of the Panama Canal (Miraflores Locks x2, Pedro Miguel Lock and Gatun Locks x3) from the Pacific Ocean, up 85 feet to Lake Gatun, then down 85 feet to the Atlantic Ocean. An amazing engineering marvel that will be 100 years old next year. -- Enjoy

The Panama Canal is a 77.1-kilometre (48 mi) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. There are locks at each end to lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial lake created to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal, 26 metres (85 ft) above sea level. The current locks are 33.5 metres (110 ft) wide. A third, wider lane of locks is currently under construction and is due to open in 2016.
France began work on the canal in 1881, but had to stop because of engineering problems and high mortality due to disease. The United States took over the project in 1904, and took a decade to complete the canal, which was officially opened on August 15, 1914. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Panama Canal shortcut greatly reduced the time for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, enabling them to avoid the lengthy, hazardous Cape Horn...

Modern time wonder The Panama Canal in Panama City.
Panama City is the capital of the southern state of Central America’s land bridge. This vibrant, modern city is located in a tropical country at which Panama’s isthmus is only eighty miles wide. The country's name is famous because it contains the most important waterway in the world and the development of both urban and rural areas is due to the presence of the gigantic Panama Canal. This massive and amazingly expensive project of building technology is best understood by travelling along it, a journey that takes around nine hours and changes direction twice a day. Soon we will see the monumental steel bridge of Puenta De Las Américas, the only land connection between North and South America, since the channel cuts through both continents. After travelling twelve kilometres inland the ships must negotiate the first double lock, which takes around forty five minutes. After forty kilometres, the third lock system follows, the Gatún Locks, where the ships are lowered twenty six metres. This impressive process takes an hour in three successive lock chambers, each of which is about three hundred metres long. The dream of a water connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific came true within a period of ten years. A...

There's only one place on earth where you can go from sea to sea and then back in a day: Panama. We start on the Pacific side and go to Colon Port to witness Panamanian culture in the shape of Panama's traditional dance, called congo dancing. Then we take the Panama Canal Railway from Colon to Panama City where we arrive in time for evening beers at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

This is a complete recording of our Panama Canal Transit on February 15th 2017 starting in Panama Bay as the sun rises over the Pacific* at 6:40 am and continues non-stop through all the locks, the Culebra cut, Gatun Lake and out past the breakers into the Caribbean Sea.
The full transit took approx 11 hours. This video is slightly shorter because during the Culebra cut area and the Gatun lake I was not always using multiple cameras. This is because I needed to insure that I had enough memory to record the final lock at Gatun.
2) Panasonic HDC-TM41H HD Camcorders(1080)
1) GoPro 4 (4K)
1) Moto Z Android
Approx 200 gb of memory cards
Edited using Sony Vegas 13. It took 5 days to edit and 40 hours to render and the file size, WMV is 38gb.
Because of the amateur nature of the recordings the sound quality on the cameras, excessive wind noise, most of the audio has been replaced with sound files from Pond5.com, SoundBible.com, YouTube's Audio Library as well as some audio salvaged from the original videos.
The only change to the video was some minor contrast adjustment to remove some of the glare and white noise. Other than that this is what we saw from our view.

The Panama Canal is a ship canal which joins the Caribbean Sea in Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, it had an enormous impact on shipping between the two oceans, replacing the long and treacherous route via the Drake Passage and Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America. A ship sailing from New York to San Francisco via the canal travels 9,500 km (6,000 miles), well under half the 22,500 km (14,000 miles) route around Cape Horn. Although the concept of a canal near Panama dates back to the early 16th century, the first attempt to construct a canal began in 1880 under French leadership. After this attempt failed and 21,900 workers died, the project of building a canal was attempted and completed by the United States in the early 1900s, with the canal opening in 1914. The building of the 77 km (48 mi) canal was plagued by problems, including disease (particularly malaria and yellow fever) and landslides. By the time the canal was completed, a total of 27,500 workmen are estimated to have died in the...

The Panama Canal Railway runs parallel to the Panama Canal, connecting the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The train ride is a popular journey among tourists.
Although much older than the famous canal, the Panama Rail Road never enjoyed the same recognition. The maiden voyage across the Isthumus of Panama in 1855 was the first train to run from ocean to ocean. Its significance was lost, however, just four decades later when the U.S. opened a route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Today a train ride along the old line is a treat for tourists.
Ever since it opened for commercial operations in 1914, the Panama Canal has been greatly beneficial to the economy in Central America. Eighty-two kilometers long, it meant goods could be shipped from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast much faster; a single journey could be reduced by a good three weeks. From 1914 until 1979 the canal was under the control of the United States. For two decades it was then jointly controlled by the US and Panama and in 1999 full control was given to Panama. This incredible feat of engineering is the pride and joy of its citizens and generates around 40% of the national income. But before the canal, the Panama railway was the first to affectively connect the Atlantic with...

We didn’t know exactly what to expect when we found out that our Caribbean Princess cruise was stopping in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. We researched our tours carefully and settled on Your Lucky Tour. Eduardo, the owner, walked us through the process of finding the right experience for our party. We ultimately chose a tour to Cahuita National Park, with stops at the Tortugero Canal, a fruit stand, and a private home where we got to pet a baby sloth. This tour was appealing because it combined some of the common sights in Puerto Limon, with the off the beaten path trip to Cahuita. Cahuita was quintessential Costa Rica- jungle meets beach, wildlife, and warm locals. My Mom loved this day, and the personal service and great price made it super memorable. Amazing trip to Panama and Costa Rica - Panama and Costa Rica tourism & Vacations

Panama is a country in Central America with coastlines on both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, with Colombia (and South America) to the southeast and Costa Rica (and North America) to the northwest. It's strategically located on the isthmus that forms the land bridge connecting North and South America and controls the Panama Canal that links the North Atlantic Ocean via the Caribbean Sea with the North Pacific Ocean, one of the most important shipping routes in the world.
Costa Rica (Spanish: Costa Rica or República de Costa Rica, pronounced [reˈpuβlika ðe ˈkosta ˈrika]) is a small country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east.
