Following its first test launch, Falcon Heavy is now the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (141,000 lb)---a mass greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel--Falcon Heavy can lift more than twice the payload of the next closest operational vehicle, the Delta IV Heavy, at one-third the cost. Falcon Heavy draws upon the proven heritage and reliability of Falcon 9.
Its first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores whose 27 Merlin engines together generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, equal to approximately eighteen 747 aircraft. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, delivered more payload to orbit. Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars.

Tens of thousands of spectators made the pilgrimage from across the country & 20 million people around the world on Youtube witnessed the thunderous roar of the SpaceX's new 23-story-tall jumbo rocket as it has blasted off on its first test flight, carrying Elon Musk’s red Tesla sports car aiming for an endless trip past Mars.
The Falcon Heavy rose from the same launch pad used by NASA nearly 50 years ago to send men to the Moon. With lift-off, the Heavy became the most powerful rocket in use today, doubling the lift-off punch of its closest competitor.
Within three minutes, the Falcon Heavy’s two side boosters separated from the central rocket in one of the most critical points of the flight. Some eight minutes after launch, a pair of sonic booms rocked the area as the two side boosters set down in near synchrony on two landing pads.
Flying atop the Falcon Heavy is SpaceX & Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s cherry-red Tesla Roadster, carrying a passenger—sort of. SpaceX revealed last weekend that a mannequin wearing the company’s new spacesuit would ride in the driver’s seat of the electric sports car. Nicknamed Starman

SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida yesterday carrying its first payload -- a red Tesla roadster -- into orbit. Loren Grush spoke to CEO Elon Musk about the launch and what this means for the future of space travel, as well as Planetary Society CEO Bill Nye. The Falcon Heavy now holds the title for the world’s most powerful rocket, and its launch marks the first time a vehicle this massive has ever been sent up by a commercial company.

SpaceX launched its most impressive rocket yet on Feb. 6, the Falcon Heavy. The launch was a brilliant success. It sent Elon Musk's Tesla roadster into space! But not everything went according to plan.
SpaceX wanted to land 3 rockets that day. But only 2 made it back to Earth in one piece. The Falcon Heavy is a beast, fueled by 3 main parts. Two booster rockets on the side and one core stage in the center.
Each part runs on 9 engines. That's 27 total engines it takes to lift this rocket to space. The two side boosters landed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The center core was supposed to land on a drone ship in the ocean. But it missed the mark by 328 feet and crashed into the Atlantic instead.
Now we know why.
Rockets save a little fuel in their tanks for landing. It fuels the engines that fire to slow down the rocket. But two-thirds of the central core's engines didn't fire on landing. Six days after the crash, Musk tweeted the reason: "Not enough ignition fluid to light the outer two engines after several three engines relights. Fix is pretty obvious."
Crashes like this aren't new for SpaceX. In fact, it released a video of all its fails back in 2017. SpaceX is famous for learning from its failures to...

Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy models and renderings from Oli Braun - find him on twitter - http://twitter.com/oli_braun
Falcon Heavy. It’s ALMOST HERE! When it flies, it will be the most powerful and highly anticipated rocket of the 21st century.
SpaceX will be attempting the ultimate feat in rocketry, strapping three orbital class boosters together to form a heavy lift vehicle. As if that weren’t enough, the Falcon Heavy will be attempting to land ALL THREE of its massive first stages boosters, two by land one by sea.
SpaceX first announced the Falcon Heavy in 2011 saying the vehicle would be ready to launch in 2013… So why exactly has it taken five additional years to develop a rocket that’s essentially just three Falcon 9’s strapped together?
Well, we’re going to dive into what all has changed since the 2011 announcement including what specific hardware and technology had to be developed. We’re also going to compare the Falcon 9 to the Falcon Heavy in a side by side comparison and explain just why exactly there’s so much more to the Falcon Heavy than just strapping three Falcon 9’s together.

Falcon Heavy’s center core attempted to land on the “Of Course I Still Love You” droneship, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, but failed to light two of the three engines during the landing burn and crashed into the ocean.

SpaceX just launched a Tesla Roadster to Mars on this: SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket.
This was the Falcon Heavy's maiden flight. It's the launch that everyone's been waiting for. The Falcon Heavy is a monster.
It has 27 engines, can generate more power than 18 747 jumbo jets, and is the most powerful rocket to fly since NASA's moon rocket, the Saturn V.
Making it the most powerful functioning rocket on Earth. This is one of SpaceX's most difficult launches. Musk even said "Just bear in mind that there is a good chance this monster rocket blows up."
But it didn't!
Even though this was a test launch, Musk took the opportunity to send some payload to space. A Tesla Roadster, which will eventually reach Mars' orbit.
Now, that's a rocket test like we've never seen before. Afterward, SpaceX retrieved each of the 3 boosters for possible reuse. They landed one booster on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean and 2 at its landing base in Florida.
Musk has said the Falcon Heavy could usher people to Mars someday in the future. That day now looks closer than ever. And who knows?
Maybe a Roadster will be waiting when they get there.

It’s ALIVE!!!!! For the very first time, the Falcon Heavy has successfully lit all 27 of its mighty Merlin engines in preparation for its maiden launch. Once it flies, the Falcon Heavy will be the most powerful rocket currently in operation.
SpaceX does a hold down test of all their rockets called a static fire and today we’re going to give you a quick rundown on what that is, how it works, and why they do it.

The Falcon Heavy was first announced in 2011 at a news conference in Washington DC, but the idea had been floating around since 2004.
And the idea was pretty simple. SpaceX had the Falcon 9 rocket, which at the time had done a couple of test runs into Low Earth Orbit so they were getting a feel for what it was capable of.
And what they saw was it was a great workhorse to take cargo to the ISS, and satellites to...
