In this ingenious talk, Pulitzer Prize winning writer Charles Duhigg seamlessly combines informational facts from research, anecdotes from real events, and personal experience with insightful observations to explain why human behaviors are compelled by habit. Citing research evidence supporting the positive effects of willpower on long-term decision-making, Duhigg encourages listeners to teach willpower by supporting the mindful contemplation of consequences and resisting impulses that otherwise result in persistent habits.

The most groundbreaking lesson I took away from the Power of Habit must be that you can't really erase old patterns or, say, delete, a bad habit. That's why it's so easy for us to fall back into our old ways,
it's something we're familiar and strangely comfortable with, but comfort oftentimes is the very source of our bad habits. Eating junk food and drinking soda is easier and thus more comfortable than learning as much as possible about nutrition and carefully paying attention to what you put in your body.
However, since you can't erase your bad habits, you have to replace them with a good habit. See how in Part II here - https://youtu.be/SzgEpV-pz_c

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business is a book by Charles Duhigg, a New York Times reporter, published in February 2012 by Random House. It explores the science behind habit creation and reformation. The book has reached the best seller list for The New York Times, Amazon.com, and USA Today.
The book was long listed for the Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award in 2012. Some of the main concepts Duhigg develops in it are described below.
The Habit loop: This is a neurological pattern that governs any habit. It consists of three elements: a cue, a routine, and a reward. Understanding these components can help in understanding how to change bad habits or form good ones. The habit loop is always started with a cue, a trigger that transfers your brain into a mode that automatically determines which habit to use. The heart of the habit is a mental, emotional, or physical routine. Finally there is a reward, which helps your brain determine if this particular loop is worth remembering for the future. In an...

The power of habit by Charles Duhigg
For United State:
Your life today is essentially the sum of your habits.
How in shape or out of shape you are? How happy or unhappy you are? How successful or unsuccessful you are? A result of your habits
Your life today is a result of your habits
it takes 66 days for a habit to become ingrained.
Every habit has the same 3–step structure, a "habit loop." Cue-routine-reward.
Golden Rule of habit change is that you can never truly extinguish bad habits. But you can reshape it, just by replacing a healthier Habit routine but keeping reward and cue unchanged.
Keystone habits lead to the development of multiple good habits.
Belief and environment are at the core habit loops and plays a critical role in habit change.
