How to Develop Daily Habits
As tempting as it is to try and change more than one habit at a time to reach your goals more quickly, the opposite is true. Doing poorly with one habit will have a domino effect on the habits you’re doing well with. The house of cards will topple over and the level of discouragement you’ll feel will make it that much harder to get back on your feet.
Here’s the habit-building process that’s working for me:
Focus on building one habit per month.
Don’t give yourself a deadline: Some daily habits will be easier to build than others, and it doesn’t matter how long it takes to build the habit, as long as you build it.
Commit fully and don’t back down.
Go easy on yourself if you stumble. Instead of getting angry with yourself, use it as a learning experience. Figure out what caused you to stumble, deal with any external influences causing you problems, and try again.
Each time you hit a milestone—one week, one month, six months, etc.—reward yourself in some way. How is completely up to you.

Once you’re able to complete the habit without having to think about it, it’s time to move onto establishing your next habit.

This habit change method dates back to ancient times and it's something I use all the time.

It's accurate to say that this is the best habit hack I know for staying on your diet in the hardest times.

I was inspired to make this video by the story of Odysseus, and when he had to face the sirens who's beautiful song lured countless sailors to shipwreck on their island.

Odysseus knew he is gonna run out of self-control when facing the sirens so he ordered his men to tie him to the ships mast. And he ordered his men to use beeswax in their ears so they can't hear the sirens.

The big idea from this story is that Odysseus knew that his willpower would fail as he approached temptation, he knew that his self-control will fail.

So he decided to take action to protect his future self from himself by creating a system with a commitment that made failure impossible.

Ray Stanford, my first mentor, told me something critical during one of the first conversations we ever had. He said, “You need only one quality to succeed. You must have discipline.”

I didn’t want to have discipline. I thought discipline meant punishment.

But the truth is discipline is the ability to give yourself a command and then follow it.

Well, it didn’t take long for me to figure out that Ray was right. You will never develop anything of any consequence if you are not disciplined. However, if you are disciplined, you can have anything you seriously want.

This is so basic, it’s so simple, yet it’s so misunderstood. People who make it in life, whether that’s becoming really rich, running a successful business or living life on their own terms, have all developed the skill of self-discipline.

However, a common misconception about successful people is that they like doing all the things they do.

That is utterly false.

Habits are our automatic patterns of behaviour. In this video, Owen Fitzpatrick explains how you can take just three steps towards breaking bad habits and building better habits. Many people want to stop smoking or lose weight. Others want to change how they think and become happier. Many want to change the habits of their organisation to improve how successful it becomes. Habits aren't just external behaviours. They can be internal ones also.
